A Brief Introduction of Digital Clinical Thermometer

With the advancement of technology, the "three major pieces" of the medical veterans-blood pressure monitors, stethoscopes, and clinical thermometers have been combined with digital technology. Because of its accuracy and convenience, electronic sphygmomanometers have long been popular in clinical departments. And digital clinical thermometer, such as "body thermometers, forehead thermometers, and ear thermometers" also emerge in endlessly.

First, let us get to know the digital clinical thermometer. If we search for "digital clinical thermometer", most of them are "body thermometer, forehead thermometer and ear thermometer." Are the above products real thermometers? Not really. The reason is simple: there are only three commonly used clinical temperature measurement places: the oral cavity, armpits and anus. The temperature of the forehead and ears are located on the body surface, which is greatly affected by the external temperature and cannot reflect the real body temperature. Strictly speaking, it is the wrong way of measuring body temperature in a strict diagnostic sense. What's more, most of these types of thermometers are non-contact type, using the principle of infrared induction to measure temperature, and the reliability is slightly worse.

Because it is quick and convenient, the digital clinical thermometer is acceptable for screening adult fever patients, but it cannot meet the needs of delicate clinical work. Therefore, electronic thermometers are often complained of inaccurate measurement. Therefore, in the true sense, electronic thermometers only include contact electronic thermometers. The so-called body temperature gun can only be regarded as an inaccurate "body temperature measurement tool."

The core element of the electronic thermometer is the temperature sensor, the resolution of which can generally reach ± 0.01℃. The traditional mercury thermometer is made based on the principle of thermal expansion and contraction, with an accuracy of 0.1°C. Faster measurement speed and convenient reading are the obvious advantages of electronic clinical thermometers. It can also avoid mercury pollution problems caused by broken mercury thermometers, so it has a great potential to replace the mercury clinical thermometer.
